Summer Fairycakes!

(I’m possibly the only person ever who decorates cakes in the summer that end up looking like Halloween pumpkins?)

Having finaaaally figured out why I’ve been broke all year (it can be really demoralising being able to go anywhere or do anything, which in part I feel is why I haven’t been as into blogging as before!) I’m about to come into a nice bulk of money from student finance (fingers crossed!) and am hoping to finally get the 50mm lens I’ve been trying to get for ages : ) which means I’m a happy bunny – and my blog will benefit because I might finally be a bit happier with my photographs! Yay! Its hard competing with some of you out there when I’m a perfectionist by nature, and when my camera isn’t giving me the results I really hope for! Now I have the summer pretty much free, I am going to dedicate a bit more time to blogging and enjoying fashion again!

Anyway, because you’re probably wondering why I ended up cracking and doing the cliche blogger activity that is baking cakes, a nice lady up the road from my house was having a bit of a clear out yesterday, and ended up donating lots of nice furniture and foody bits to me and my housemate! Included in the ingredients were lots of cakey bits and bobs so of course, me and Sian took the opportunity to bake us some nice little fairycakes : ) we had to think of people to give them to because we ended up with so many! 40 in total = 20 each = diabetes heaven… good stuff eh? So potentially we could become the most popular household down our street! Haha.

They may not be as amazingly presented or delicious as the cakes and other creations Helen bakes, but who could say no to a little bit of sugar, eh? I’d be lying if I said I was a good cook or even that I enjoy making food for myself (I’m a vegetarian, and a fussy one at that! So finding something I like is usually a trauma for me and anyone involved!) but making cakes with a friend is really fun so maybe there is some kind of ‘chef’ in me yet!

First fairycakes, next, THE WORLD! Well, a big cake perhaps? Watch this space… haha.

Fashionably Late?

Something about the miserable winter weather seems to suck the enthusiasm out of me, and leaves me a big confused mess! But, in the spirit of re-collecting my thoughts and having a spring clean, I felt that it was high time to start blogging again!

I know what you’re thinking if you’ve been reading my blog since the beginning: ‘This girl is the only blogger who has had more comebacks than Britney!’ – and you’re right, haha, and I apologize for my random off-the-radar-ness. I really envy those of you out there who continue to post and inspire people year round, and is something I can never seem to manage, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t missed blogging and all of you gorgeous lot – it was inevitable that I’d want to come back to Cherry Humbug and start again with my ramblings!

Having now got through my three week work placement, an extremely overly-long Christmas holiday spent working my old supermarket job back home in Somerset (the height of glam, I tell you!) and despite the heavy workload my university likes to pile on us now we’re in second year, I really wanted to get back into the swing of things and start to be part of the weird and wonderful blogosphere again! What better hobby is there, really?

So here I am, refreshed, and… blonde?! some of you might remember me as a blonde before, I felt it was time for a change! All through school I used to chop and change my style, and I always love a reinvention… even if I may not pull it off as well or as big-scale as Britters can, I’m back in the game. I guess its good that the fashion industry is unpredictable, and allows for us to be ‘Fashionably Late’, because if I was interested in any other industry, I would TOTALLY have ‘missed the boat’ by now… oh what an understanding industry fashion is!

I’ve always been a little hesitant when posting photographs, because I feel they aren’t up to scratch with some of the absolutely gorgeous images some of you bloggers post – I’m hoping to rope in a friend this time round to help me out a bit! No offense to my tripod, but I do feel that any ‘creature’ with three legs is a little untrustworthy haha.

So hello again, and since its midnight, that also means its ‘goodnight’ time too… see you soon! x

P.S I need to stop making a habit of my disappearing act, trying to remember my passwords is definitely not fun! Good punishment for bad bloggers though, right?

Sunday Seven: Week 1

Since Sunday marks the end of the week (or actually, the beginning for some… but I’m old fashioned that way!) I’ll be stacking together a few little tidbits that have caught my eye and whatnot throughout the week, that don’t really fit in anywhere else…

001. Old friends! To some of you who may have read my blog in the past, remember Puff, my little site mascot? Despite moving house, and her head falling off, she remains in tact – I’m still smitten, haha.

002. Admittedly, this Cadbury’s Flake advert doesn’t really spell out ‘chocolate’ in my book… however, there is definitely a ‘fashion moment’ happening, in the form of one hell of a hypnotic tentacle-like-jellyfish-y dress. Its enough to keep me quiet for a minute or so! Also, just imagine the fun you could have with that in a photoshoot. Note: Turn your sound on for full hypnotic-effect!

003. Barry M Nail Paints in Mint Green and Cyan Blue. Delish!

004. D&G A/W 2009 remains the perfect collection in my eyes… I would do anything to open my wardrobe to this everyday!

005. Vested Bee Vintage, run by the gorgeous Fabiola, a real gem if you’re into vintage. And, might I add, she pulls off the girl of yester-year style flawlessly!

006. LOVE magazine, which is now also online, yay! Pick your cover carefully girls, there are eight bombshells to choose from. No contest for me, Team Rosie all the way!

007. One of the first ever ‘fashion’ blogs I read religiously, was the wonderful Gala Darling. The ‘feel good factor’ is second to none, I promise you now that a day with Ms Darling in your life will never be a miserable one – check her out if you haven’t already, she’s an angel!

008. Despite it being Sunday seven I’m making an exception for one of my bestest most lovelist friends, Carrie! I’m sure by now, you will be familiar with her blog – she’s the one who introduced me to the whole new world of the blogosphere, and has done rather well for herself from it – I feel like a proud parent, haha.

Cherries in the Snow

Admittedly, I don’t wear red lipstick as much as I’d like to. I would love to leave the house each and every day with a picture perfect scarlet pout, allowing me to channel the essence of a film noir femme fatale as I carry out my mundane day to day activities, but in reality, there is more to consider than ‘do I have lipstick on my teeth?’

I’m still on my quest to find my perfect match! Whilst I absolutely adore the cherry hue of this particular Revlon creation, I find that it simply lacks the staying power I need to see me through a day or night out – I’m not the type to want to retouch my make up at regular points throughout the day. But all things considered, I have found that my trusty Cherries in the Snow has outlasted other more expensive brands, and with such wonderful imagery linked with the name, who am I to resist? So for now, perhaps I should consider investing in some Lipcote, I’m sure many a femme fatale from the 40′s would’ve benefeitted from such things!

P.S More polka dots?! I never realised before how many polka dotted pieces lurk in my wardrobe. This particular shirt was found in a charity shop, one of my best finds… although technically my mum spotted it, she does come in handy – thanks mum!

P.P.S I have a new Twitter account! I’ll be using it to keep up with all of your blogs and whatnot, so if you’d like me to follow you – add me so I can return the favour : ) You can find a link to my profile in the sidebar!
